The British Entertainment History Project is building and preserving what is now the UK's largest oral history collection of interviews with professionals from across the film, television, radio and theatre industries.
This unique collection of of over 800 professional experiences and personal insights reflects the working lives and the social, cultural and economic contribution of the UK's media entertainment industry.

Lindsay Anderson, film director, is one of the most important figures in British cinema. During the 1950s, Anderson became a leading figure in the Free Cinema movement, which aimed to show ordinary British life in a realistic and socially conscious way. In 1985, Anderson was hired to film Wham!’s historic 10-day tour of China, when they became the first Western pop group to perform there. He created an ambitious documentary, but Wham! rejected his version because it focused heavily on Chinese society rather than the band. His original footage has now been given new life in the 2026 documentary Wham! 10 Days in China, directed by Mike Christie which also uses clips from our 1991 History Project interview with Lindsay.
